A recent article Why Do South Asians Have Such High Rates of Heart Disease? in The New York Times | Feb 12, 2019 issue is interesting and very important for all South Asians living here in the US. The study cited the article makes it clear that despite so called “healthy & good life style” this ethnic group seems to “have a greater tendency to store body fat in places where it shouldn’t be, like the liver, abdomen and muscles. Fat that accumulates in these areas, known as visceral or ectopic fat, causes greater metabolic damage than fat that is stored just underneath the skin, known as subcutaneous fat.
